Mosquito Bites. We avoid them at all costs but when they do happen they itch…and itch…and itch until you just can’t take it anymore! Scratching that itch may feel soothing for a moment but it actually releases more histamines in the body which make the bite itch more!
So how can you stop the itching and get some relief? Here are some remedies you can use and these are probably things you already have in your house, so you won’t even have to run to the store!
Green Tea– Hold a refrigerated, dampened green tea bag on the bite. The cold helps soothe while the compounds in the tea help with inflammation.
Alcohol– Rubbing alcohol, witch hazel or tea tree oil all have antiseptic properties and can help prevent infection while soothing the itch.
Basil– Rub a basil leaf on a mosquito bite to soothe the itch. Basil has anti-inflammatory properties which can help swelling and has even been known to repel mosquitoes.
Honey– Dab honey on a mosquito bite to soothe skin. Honey is a natural antibiotic and can prevent infections as well.
Toothpaste-Yep toothpaste! The anti-inflammatory ingredients in toothpaste, such as baking soda and menthol can soothe the itch. Just dab a little on the bite and feel the relief!
Apple Cider Vinegar– Apple Cider Vinegar has tons of benefits so it’s no wonder helping with mosquito bites is one of them. The acidity in ACV works wonders on an itchy bite.
Lemon– Lemons contain natural anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties. Simply cut open a lemon and rub the inside of one of the halves on the bite.
Garlic– Garlic can help reduce swelling and itching, just rub minced garlic onto the bite.
Baking Soda– Baking soda, being alkaline in nature neutralizes the PH of the skin and provides relief. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply to the bite.
Listerine– Apply Listerine on a cotton ball to the bite, the menthol in Listerine will quickly soothe an itchy bite.
